KOBUDO WEAPONS
Kobudo is a traditional martial art that utilizes the work implements of the farmers and fishermen of Okinawa. At Doug Yates Karate we teach the following Kobudo weapons and kata.

The Bo The bo is a staff of very hard wood about six feet long, approximately one inch in diameter, and tapered at both ends.  It was originally used as a walking staff and a tool to carry very heavy loads.  It can be used  to strike, block, and trap an opponent.

The Nunchaku The nunchaku is a pair of hard wooden round or hexagonal sticks connected with a chain or cord.  The force produced by swinging this weapon makes them very effective.
Hours of practice with this weapon is mandatory and insufficient practice may result in serious self-inflicted injuries.  There are different versions of what this farm tool was used for.  Some
say it was a wheat and grain thresher, or a wheat and grain frail, while others say it was a bridle for a horse.
